The route roughly
The night cruise generally covers the confluence waters of the Yangtze and Jialing, departing from the Chaotianmen area, sailing along the rivers and returning. Route length and duration differ between operators and sailings; follow the day's arrangements.
Four main types of sight
- The confluence: open water where you can see the difference in colour and flow between the two rivers.
- Stilted-house complexes: warm golden light stacked up the hillside — the most concentrated visual focus of the night sail.
- River bridges: lit at night, with cables and towers forming crisp lines.
- The city skyline: towers on both banks arranged across the terrain, building layers of light.
How to divide your attention on board
- After departure, look first at the facades on both banks — the most easily missed part.
- At the confluence, notice the openness of the water and the reflections.
- Approaching a bridge, watch the structural lines; night lighting strengthens the silhouette.
- On the return leg, look back — the angle differs from the outbound leg.
A note
Routes and the order of sights change with the sailing, water levels and on-site dispatch; a fixed route is not promised. Focusing on "what type of thing to look at" is more useful than memorising "the third attraction".
